Stay positive

How do you stay positive when things do not go your way, as you hoped they would? When you face challenges? When you go through tough times in life?

The most important thing to do is to continue to take care of yourself. The basics – eat, sleep and exercise. These basic things are often the things that you start to miss out on when things get tough. And even if I know, and you know this, it is SO common that you still do not take care of the most important person in your life when things get tough and we are faced with some of the challenges that comes with life. That most important person is You.

You start to eat too little or too much, you eat more unhealthy stuff, the number of fast food dinners often increases, for instance. You might not eat regularly, you eat too late, or you skip out on one or more of the important meals of the day (breakfast, lunch and dinner).

You do not sleep well, maybe you go to sleep too late, you have troubles to fall asleep, or you sleep too much, because you just cannot get out of bed in the morning.

And often, the very first thing you do when times are tough is also that you start to skip out on your exercise. You feel that you do not have the time, you do not have the energy or you just do not feel like exercising because you are in a bad mood.

So, how do you stay positive? By taking care of yourself! Stick to your routines, your vital basic needs. Eat well! Even if you are not feeling hungry, you need to eat, and at regular times during the day. And even if the mind is telling you that you want fast food, resist that feeling and go for something nutritious that will give you a lot more energy. You need even more energy when you have a lot on your mind that takes energy. Sleep well! Get in bed in time, shut off your phone an hour before you go to sleep. And if you want, instead listen to some calming music, do some mindfulness meditation or read a book in bed, that will help you fall asleep. And keep up with your activities! Even if you do not have the energy or do not feel like it. That is when you need it the most! It does not have to be more than a 30 minute walk, the important thing is to do something. Every day.

If you have any other interests or hobbies, stick to them! Even if you cannot put as much time on them as before, just doing something that you like or even love, will help a lot to keep a positive mindset even in challenging times.

Hope this post will give you some ideas on how to stay positive, even in tough times.

Wish you the best. Take Care. Namaste.
