How do you find time to do the things you want in life? It is very common to have the feeling that you do not have the time to do the things you want, to get that precious time on your own, to have the time to follow your dreams, to develop, to learn more. Because there is so much going on in the day-to-day life taking up all our time, leaving no time (or energy) for what you really want. Once you are done with the grocery shopping, the cooking, the cleaning, the taking care of kids, doing school work, or your needed working hours (yes, the list can go on and on. I think you know the feeling :-)), then you are collapsing in the couch, in front of the TV, or scrolling on your mobile, before going to sleep, feeling exhausted. Thinking that, TOMORROW, then I will find the time for me. And ending up repeating the same pattern as yesterday, over and over again.

So how do you do then?! To find that precious time that we are in need of, that will make us feel really good? First, I would say, you need to choose. You need to decide on one thing that you want to focus on. If it is a hobby you want to develop, taking a class, learning a new thing, starting to exercise if you do not already, spending more time with your kids or friends, or it can be just deciding that you want half an hour of me-time every day.

Then start monitoring what you are doing during the days. Without judging or trying to change anything at first, just write in a journal on activities and timings, like when you get out of bed and when you go to sleep. And the big things during the day that you spend your time on. Do this for a week or two, you are done when you start seeing a pattern.

Next thing is to make a plan on what you want your days to be like, with including this one thing to focus on, for at least 30 minutes every day. And maybe you find that you are not that effective in some areas? Like planning the grocery shopping for instance, maybe you are going to the store a lot of times during a week, and you could easily reduce this by planning a bit more? Also, you can think about getting up a bit earlier, to find the time for your focus area before you need to start your day-to-day activities. And how can you make things more simple? Is there a shortcut for some things that you are spending too much time on, that you would like to change into other things that you really enjoy?

Once you have a plan on how you want to spend your days, it is time to make things happen! You set the alarm (you will need it), you get to bed when planned and you start, bit by bit, one day at a time, turning your days into days where there IS time for yourself and your dreams. I know, there can be a lot of challenges with doing this, so you need of course to adapt this to what is working for you and your life situation. And remember that even the seemingly small changes can make a difference over time.

To keep track of the changes I would continue writing a journal on your days, your timings and your activities, to see how you transform your life into a life where you do have time!

Finding your flow

How do you do to find your feeling of good flow? Flow in life, flow in yoga, flow in jogging, flow when doing a task (like writing a blog ;-)), or other. I was just out running, and thinking about how different this can feel. Some days you just fly through the streets, feeling like you can run how far you want, in a perfect flow. And other days your feet feels like lead… so heavy, like you are not moving an inch, even if you want them to. You are missing the flow.

It is the same in yoga. Now that I have started to study and should build a good session of sequences in yoga myself, I am trying to find a good rhythm. So that the full hour or so yoga session feels like one big flow, even if you are starting slowly with warming up the body, then moving into more challenging poses, finishing off with Savasana. The good thing is that I can already feel if there is a flow or not in the session. That is always a start! 🙂

It is the same in other situations in life regarding this flow. If I should write a post on this blog or do another task, sometimes I just have this flow, full of energy and inspiration, and other times it is impossible to write a sentence or doing a planned task. The feeling of being in a flow is fantastic. You loose the sense of time and space, and you feel like you can achieve anything. My best tip to find the flow, that is working for me, is to do something totally different than what you need the flow for. Go for a walk or for a run is always helping, as well as cooking food, planning a meal or playing with the kids. Or, I start to do something that I really do not like doing, that is really boring, like cleaning, then usually I will find the inspiration and energy quite soon.

Gardener of your life

It is interesting and helpful to imagine yourself as the gardener of your life. Meaning that you can decide yourself what kind of seeds to plant, and that these seeds will effect your future life and future experiences. And, what you are experiencing today is the result of the seeds you planted earlier in life. Do you have a happy and joyful life today? A beautiful and colourful garden? Congratulations, then you are already on the right track! If you see that you need some more plants, bigger plants, more colourful plants maybe? Then you need to start taking more care of your garden and look into what seeds you should plant in future and what seeds to stop planting and nurturing in any way.

Of course, it takes some decisiveness and work to plant the right seeds. How you do this? It is your thoughts and behaviour that will result in some kind of seeds. So, being kind and helping others is a very good way to get the right type of seeds sowed into the soil of your garden, to plant nice things that you will enjoy harvesting later on. Without thinking too much about yourself. Doing things for others will get you things as well in the end. If this is what you wish. You just need to be patient. 🙂

As with a real garden you also need to water it and take care of your seeds on a regular basis, to keep the plants alive of course, and to make them grow. The constant act of kindness and caring for others will make your garden bloom and thrive. You have all the tools you need. So go make your garden a fantastic one!

Empower yourself

Yoga is about empowering yourself, your body as well as your mind. The difference between yoga and other forms of exercise is that you also build your mental strength. You find that your body gets stronger and more flexible, but also, you find an inner strength and a calmness in your mind like in no other exercise or practise (at least not to my experience).

Because all you need to empower yourself, you already have inside you. You do not need anyone or anything else. Yoga is just a tool, it is there to help you find it. By making you slow down, think, reflect, and notice how you feel. Being present and listening in to your body. That is what will help you find your inner strength, and to find the true you.

A quote from Donna Farhi, the famous yoga teacher and author, says: “yoga is a technology for arriving in this present moment”. The most difficult thing to do, in today’s society. So when you do yoga you get the possibility to really be in that present moment, and connect with yourself, listen to your inner voice, check in on how your body really feels. How is your breath? Is is shallow or deep? Is your mind wandering around with a lot of buzzy thoughts, or can you stay in the moment and not really think about something else? Finding this key to be ‘here and now’, is really valuable for your overall health, and when you do, you will feel stronger. It is as simple as that! 🙂

You will never get further in your dreams, your wishes or your goals than you yourself feel that you deserve. If you do not believe that you are worthy, things will not happen. So start believing in yourself, believe that you ARE worthy of the things that you wish for in life. If it is money, friends, family, a job, a house or whatever, of course you deserve it. To get there, sometimes we need to work on our self-love, since most of us are a bit too hard on ourselves. Also, remember that no one else can insult you if you don’t let them. And when you grow self-respect you will become stronger in mind and you will be able to tackle hard times, hard words, any type of challenge in life. To inspire you to start working on this, look into the list below from Robin Sharma, with four different things you may consider when working on your self-esteem and self-love.

The 4 truths of self-love*:

  1. Honour your specialness. There is no one like you! No one talks or walks like you. Or have the same dreams or goals as you. You are unique.
  2. Do hard things daily. Everything is not easy, but do not give up. No matter if it is relationships or work or something else. If you want to get somewhere, you need to do some tough things. Do not give up if your relationship is not perfect all the time, what relationship is? Or getting up at 5 AM, it is not easy, but if you feel that it is helping you to get where you want, do it. And by doing hard things daily, you grow in self-respect.
  3. “Go to the woods.” Do not only be a doer all the time, being online, connected all the time, running in that wheel of constant movement. Also be a thinker, a philosopher, take some time on your own. Do nothing. Because you need to be alone sometimes, to get into silence and to get distance from all devices and other people. You need to spend time with yourself, on a regular basis, to really get to know yourself. It is not until you really get to know yourself, that you will start to love yourself.
  4. Be helpful to others. The more people you help the more you will love yourself. And the more joy you will see in your life. It is as simple as that. So stop thinking about yourself all the time, and open up to see and help others. This is a great way to strengthen our self love.

What yoga pose represents you

This weekend I started my very first yoga teacher training. It has been a dream and goal of mine for a while and now it is finally happening.

Even if you do know yoga quite well, how do you teach yoga to others, how do you guide others through a yoga class? The following months I will learn how. How to make others follow your lead, how to guide with your voice, how to keep others safe (meaning not to hurt themselves by doing poses wrong) when doing yoga. Among other things. So really looking forward to this, as a step in my own personal development. Also, to be able to share the joy of yoga and to teach all the benefits from yoga to others in the future.

And, I will of course continue to share my learnings, thoughts and insights during the journey here in the blog. So if you are interested, stay tuned.

An interesting question that we got the first day was – what yoga pose does represent you? And why? Again, thinking about your why (you can read more about your why in the post What is your purpose?.) Why do you choose a specific pose to describe you? And, why do you do yoga at all? Interesting questions to consider, and the answer will tell you a lot, not only about your yoga journey, but about you and your life in general. Is their a pattern, a link from the one to the other?

Impossible or probable?

Do you believe that things are impossible or probable? I think that nothing is impossible. The impossible just takes a little longer time to achieve. The key is to not stand still, never stop moving, but keep striving for things you want to accomplish in life. And see everything as possible or probable instead of impossible.

This is as important for you personally, in your personal development, as if you run a company or work in a company. With a company you need new thoughts and new innovations, as well as developing all co-workers to keep up with the latest. The ones who stand still will be left behind from the rest who do move continuously and this is the same in business and in private life. But in private life you have an advantage if you keep developing with small steps every day. In business it is a must to survive.

The good thing is that developing and keep moving is, for most people, a lot of fun and a thing that gives energy. Positive energy that boosts your performance as well, so positive things will lead to even more positive results in the end. 🙂 So remember to keep moving and everything IS not only probable, but very possible! What do you want to develop? In private life and/or in your business? Take a moment to think about it and then it is time to start moving.

Catch a wave, take the opportunity when it shows!

Do you catch the wave when it rises? Do you take the opportunity when it appears? You know the feeling of something big coming up, and you get that tickling feeling of excitement and at the same time you feel it is a bit frightening.. Like a big wave coming up. Sometimes from nowhere, it seems.

I believe that is what differs the ones who makes it from the ones who don’t. And with ‘make it’ I mean reach their goals or live their dreams. The one’s who dare to try and surf that wave no matter if they fall or not. They take some risks. And really. What is the worst that can happen? You fail, you fall, you get below the surface, under the water, for some time. But you will get up again! And have the chance to catch a new wave. And what if, what if you manage to surf that wave?! And succeed with your goal, your dream, your mission, that gives you that tickling and exciting feeling!

So go catch a wave! Go for it! I will be there cheering for you, all the way 😊

5 tip on how to get up at 5 AM

If you have been reading my blog before you know that since a while ago I have been getting up at 5 AM to start off the day in the best way, and now I will share with you my tip on how to get up at 5AM. I can tell you this has been the best way ever to get time to do the things I want, during the 24 hours a day that we all have. I have now the time to prepare and work on my goals and my dreams of where I want to be, by changing my morning routine. Here is my tip for you on how to make this happen:

  1. Decide. You can try this how many times you want, but if you have not really made up your mind, it will never happen.. So take a decision. Tomorrow I WILL get up at 5 AM.
  2. Prepare yourself the day before. Once you have decided you need to prepare some things. You take out the clothes you will were the next morning when you get up. For instance, your work out clothes. Put them right beside the bed so they are easy to grab when you get up the morning after. Also, you need to think through how many hours of sleep do you need? If say 7 hours, you need to turn off the light at 22 PM.
  3. Set the alarm. And put the alarm clock on a distance! This way, it will be easier for you not to go back to sleep once the alarm rings the next morning.
  4. Turn off the light in time. if you need 7 hours and you should get up at 5, you need to turn off the light before 22 AM. And try not to use your mobile phone or other screens in the last hour or so. Instead, read a book or listen to a pod. Or do a calm yoga session or meditation, to get at good nights sleep.
  5. Get up! Do not snooze! Once the alarm goes off, you rise, you get out off bed. At once. Otherwise the chances are big that you will fall asleep again and your mind will start telling you that you should not get up at all. So do not snooze, and get up right away.

With these 5 steps I have managed to get up at 5 AM a lot of mornings, so I can tell you by own experience that this works. I wish you good luck with taking control of your mornings and starting to rise at 5.

How to find strength in life

How do you find strength in life? And what do you put in the word strength or to be strong? To be strong is of course not only about the strength in your body, your muscles, but to be strong in mind, to have a “strong head”.

To have the strength to choose what to think, and not to let the bad or negative thoughts to be the voice inside your head. When you are strong you take control of your thoughts, you boost yourself with positive thinking, meaning that you think and believe that you are strong, both mentally and physically! Meaning that you believe in yourself. Believe that you can DO whatever you want. That you can BE whatever you want. With this mindset you will achieve more in life, in your personal development and it will help you to be a positive thinker.

So how do you find this strength in life? The perfect way to do this is by mindful meditation, start your yoga morning with a few minutes in silence and listen to your inner voice. What is it saying to you, about you? And do you listen to it? If you have a voice that is critical (like most of us have..) you need to stop to listen to that voice, and start telling yourself good things instead. It can help to set an intention or say an affirmation. An affirmation exercise can be to say an sentence that starts: I AM… For instance, I am… a priority in my life. My health and healing matter.

With this mental strength it will also be a lot easier to build body strength, it will help you to really get things done, like exercising on a regular, daily basis. Because as we all know. it takes some will power sometimes to make also this happen. It is not every day that you jump out of bed full of energy. 🙂 But those days are also the days when you need the mental strength the most. With this mental strength you will also increase the possibility of reaching your goals in life.
